Cause

The couple took legal action, filing a lawsuit against Espinoza and several entities. These included the Dunwoody Police Department, the City of Dunwoody, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners, and the Dunwoody Police Foundation. Claims

In April 2018, Espinoza reportedly followed Castellanos into a bathroom and took a photo of him in a compromising position. Additionally, Espinoza allegedly sent sexually charged messages to Castellanos’ wife, Leila, asking intimate questions about their marriage. These allegations highlighted repeated, unwelcome conduct and raised serious concerns about Espinoza’s behavior.

Defense

The defense claimed that Espinoza and Bryan Castellanos were friends and characterized the messages as harmless “locker room talk.” Before the trial began, Leila Castellanos was removed from the case. Additionally, all defendants except Espinoza were dismissed from the lawsuit.

Jury Verdict

The trial lasted two days, with the jury deliberating for four hours before reaching a decision. On May 29, 2024, the jury awarded Bryan Castellanos a total of $180,000 in damages. This included $120,000 in punitive damages and $60,000 in compensatory damages. Leila Castellanos was not included in the final award.
